Director
Jayson Blight graduated in Architecture with Honours from the Queensland University of Technology in 1995. On graduating he worked for Thomson Adsett Architects before joining Cox Rayner Architects where he was appointed a Director in 2000.
Jayson was one of the design leaders of Cox Rayner until 2016 when he established Blight Rayner Architecture with Michael Rayner. During that time, he was the Project Architect for several of the practice’s noteworthy projects including the National Maritime Museum of China, the One One One Eagle Street office tower and the 400 George Street office tower in Brisbane, the Museum of Tropical Queensland in Townsville, Sanctuary Cove Golf Club on the Gold Coast, and the Ipswich Justice Precinct including Ipswich Courthouse. He was joint Project Architect for the Anna Meares Velodrome that was the cycling venue for the 2018 Commonwealth Games.
Jayson also worked with Michael Rayner on designing several other innovative projects including the Kurilpa Pedestrian Bridge in Brisbane, the Helix Pedestrian Bridge in Singapore, Singapore EXPO, Cairns Convention Centre, the Goodwill Pedestrian Bridge in Brisbane, and the Sir Samuel Griffith Building at Griffith University’s Nathan Campus – the first zero-carbon university building in Queensland.
Among the premium awards these projects have received are the World Architecture Festival Future Building of the Year for the National Maritime Museum of China, the Australian Institute of Architects FDG Stanley Public Architecture Award for the Museum of Tropical Queensland and for the Ipswich Justice Precinct, the AIA Sustainability Award for One One One Eagle Street and the AIA Public Architecture Award for Anna Meares Velodrome.
Jayson is highly regarded in the commercial sector for his ability to synthesise economic, planning and design potentials for office towers as well as retail refurbishments, such as QueensPlaza in Brisbane. He has been the Project Director and lead designer of the 6 Hassall Street development in Sydney’s Parramatta, a combined office and university building, housing Western Sydney University’s Engineering Innovation Hub (completed end 2021).
He has also led the design and project team for Jubilee Place in Brisbane’s Fortitude Valley, completed in March 2022.
Jayson is currently Project Director for the New Performing Arts Venue in Brisbane’s South Bank, adjoining the Queensland Performing Arts Centre, won in international competition and under construction.
