Jayson Blight

Director
BArch(Hons) (QUT), RAIA

Jayson Blight founded Blight Rayner Architecture with Michael Rayner in 2016, and was previously one of two lead design directors at Cox Rayner Architects for over 15 years.

His projects for Cox Architecture t/a Cox Rayner are highly respected and range considerably in type and scale. They include One One One Eagle Street in Brisbane CBD, Ipswich Justice Precinct, Sanctuary Cove Golf Club, the Museum of Tropical Queensland, and most recently the National Maritime Museum of China.

Jayson has built a renown for recognising and realising the potentials of high rise towers in CBDs, and for his rapid ability to synthesise economic, functional, social and environmental factors.

This expertise contrasts dramatically with his enduring passion to craft buildings and each element of them.  He pursues this direction by collaborations with many types of craftspeople and tradespeople whose skills and ideas in return inform his design work.  This pursuit is acutely demonstrated in his multi-award winning Aperture House in Brisbane’s Highgate Hill which he designed with his wife Melissa and her practice Twofold Studio.

I love making a difference to how people interact with the city. This is why I'm interested in large public and civic commercial projects. But behind this, I'm passionate about the minutest detail, as every part of a building or place can enrich our lives.
