Rachel Smith - Blight Rayner

I have a keen interest in how architecture connects people and place. I believe architecture is at its most engaging and memorable when spaces are crafted to relate to the context and history of place.

Rachel Smith

BArchDes, MArch (UQ)

Experienced Architectural Graduate

Rachel Smith is an architectural graduate who was one of Michael Rayner’s students in his University of Queensland Master of Architecture Master Class in 2018.

During her studies, Rachel was awarded a Dean’s Commendation Award for Academic Excellence in 2015 and again in 2018. She was also admitted into the University of Queensland’s Engineering, Architecture and IT (EAIT) Faculty Academic Scholars Program in 2015.

Prior to joining Blight Rayner in 2019, Rachel worked at Wilson Architects on the QUT Education Precinct, Redlands College, the TAFE Queensland Pimlico campus in Townsville, Wynnum Manly Community Health Centre, and a new house in Highgate Hill.

Rachel has become a key member of Michael Rayner’s design team developing concepts for cultural, educational, sports and retail projects. They include the feasibility study for Bundaberg Regional Art Gallery and Performing Arts Centre, the National Rugby Training Centre at Ballymore, East Village central residential precinct at Cannon Hill, 309 North Quay office tower in Brisbane CBD, and the Griffith University Logan Campus Master Plan.

Rachel also produced superb 3D design studies for our competition entry for the new Ho Chi Minh City Theatre in Vietnam. She has an exceptional future at Blight Rayner and in the architectural and planning sector at large.
