Mark Sierzchula
BDes(Hons1), MArch (QUT)
Senior Associate
Mark Sierzchula graduated with First Class Honours with a Bachelor of Design from the Queensland University of Technology in 2011 and received his Master of Architecture degree in 2014. He had previously worked for 17 years in the architectural profession primarily with Arkhefield where he worked on multi-residential projects and on the River Quay Restaurants in Brisbane’s South Bank.
Mark worked with Jayson Blight and Michael Rayner at Cox Rayner Architects from 2011 to 2018 on renowned projects such as the Brisbane CityCat Terminals from Hawthorn to the University of Queensland and the competition-winning National Maritime Museum of China. He was lead designer of the new Fortitude Valley State Secondary College, Brisbane’s first vertical high school, and worked extensively on the Brisbane Metro and Cross River Rail transport developments.
After Jayson and Michael established Blight Rayner Architecture, he left the Cox Rayner practice and joined NRA Colab, working there for three years most notably designing and documenting the Qantas Founders Museum Airpark, an 8000m² canopy structure for the museum’s Boeing 707 and 747 aircraft. He also designed and led the project team for the two multi-residential towers and public park developed at 281-299 Montague Road in West End.
Mark reunited with Jayson and Michael at Blight Rayner in 2021 as a Senior Associate, to help guide the practice’s design ethos and project management, as well as mentoring our graduates and younger architects.
He has been the project architect for multi-residential and hotel projects in Kennigo Street Spring Hill, adjoining the heritage-listed Morrison Hotel in Woolloongabba, and adjoining the historic Breakfast Creek Hotel in Albion. He prepared the Sunshine Coast Sports Centre Master Plan and the Sunshine Coast Indoor Sports Centre PVR Reference Design for the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Mark is currently the joint project architect for the twin tower 50 level 309 North Quay residential development at the western entry to the Brisbane CBD.
