Brewers Street Terraces are a group of townhouses on a 354 m2 piece of land that was left over following development of our Jubilee Place office building and hotel on a block in Brisbane’s Fortitude Valley.
Within this small area we formed five 53 m2 lots and one slightly larger corner lot, each with three levels and a roof garden.
At ground level is a garage and multipurpose space for four of the terraces, the fifth and corner terraces also comprising garages but with potential commercial space facing the street. Level 1 consists of bedrooms while level 2 provides living, dining and kitchen spaces. On level 3, each of the roof gardens open out from study spaces.
As daylight is only available from the street side and the narrow ends of the site, a series of light shafts descend down along the rear boundary to provide daylight and ventilation to the rear spaces at each level.
The Brewers Street Terraces have gained considerable media and Government attention as a potential solution to small block inner city housing, dubbed ‘gentle density.’ In this case, each townhouse has a freehold title and spaces typically larger than any apartment typology, with the architectural form substantially differing in scale and expression.
