Kara West - Blight Rayner

I'm drawn to the point where strategy, design and communication intersect – where getting the structure and the story right actually changes the outcome.

Bid and Communications Manager

Kara West is Blight Rayner’s Bid and Communications Manager, drawing on a career spanning graphic design, communications and bid management across the built environment sector.

Kara first worked with directors Jayson Blight and Michael Rayner at Cox Rayner Architects, where she developed her skills in executive coordination, client communications, submissions and marketing collateral while gaining a strong understanding of architecture and the design process. She later joined Blight Rayner in 2016 as Graphic Communications Manager, playing a key role in shaping the practice’s brand, communications systems and submission approach during a period of significant growth.

Before returning to Blight Rayner, Kara worked within the civil construction industry, managing major bids and strategic communications across infrastructure, water, defence and aviation sectors throughout Australia. This experience broadened her understanding of project delivery, procurement and stakeholder engagement while strengthening her expertise in complex submissions and client-focused communication.

Kara now leads bids and communications across Blight Rayner’s pursuits, supporting opportunities from early client engagement through to submissions, project communications and industry awards. She has contributed to many of the practice’s significant projects and initiatives, including 360 Queen Street in Brisbane, the Western Sydney University Innovation Hub in Parramatta, the Glasshouse Theatre at South Bank and the National Rugby Training Centre at Ballymore.

Combining a background in design, communications and strategic bid leadership, Kara brings a clear understanding of how to communicate complex ideas, build strong client relationships and articulate the value of good design.
