DESIGN FOR CHANGE
A great first day of Design for Change – a collaborative symposium between QUT Centre for Justice and QUT Design Lab. The day began with an inspiring keynote from Helen Manchester on co-design with older adults – taking care of our ageing futures. We moved on to two parallel sessions on Youth, Design and Justice with a presentation by Brigid Canny of YLab about meaningfully engaging young people in service design. QUT researchers Angela Higginson, Lyra L’Estrange, PhD and Dr Meegan Brown discussed their research areas of youth justice and education followed by some great Q&A. We finished up the day with an inspiring keynote from Victoria Parker of The Lady Musgrave Trust and Michael Rayner AM of Blight Rayner Architecture demonstrating the powerful intersection of justice and design through the development of the Haven Project. Finally QUT’s Lyndall Bryant PhD, AAPI, GAICD facilitated an informative panel discussion with key industry representatives Natalie Rayment of Wolter Consulting Group, Tom Alves of Australian Housing and Urban Research Institute (AHURI) and Nicola Middleton of BHC Creating Liveable Communities.
