Lady Musgrave Trust

Blight Rayner is currently in the process of designing pro bono a grouping of four apartments around a communal space for young women who have experienced domestic violence and are at risk of homelessness, most with young children.

This is a rewarding project for many reasons. Responding to the specific needs of young women with differing experiences, imparting sense of safety and security fostering community while enabling privacy, and so on.

The design we are working on focuses upon indoor-outdoor living, framing the apartments and communal space in high subtropical gardens. This creates varied play spaces for the children while facilitating surveillance for their mothers. We are designing to minimise cost by using readily available and economical materials, and seeking suppliers who might wish to donate to the project.
