Blight Rayner Master of Architecture Design Prize at the Griffith University

In June, Michael Rayner presented the Blight Rayner Master of Architecture Design Prize for 2017 to Sobi Slingsby at the Griffith University Academic Awards Presentation Ceremony held in Griffith’s Central Theatres. Sobi’s final project was the rehabilitation of a coral cay at the southern end of the Great Barrier Reef, utilising buildings to promote new coral growth. In turn, combined coral formations and concrete building bases form the footings for lightweight pavilions and elevated walkways. Her project involved extensive scientific research and solutions to future cyclone and flood events. Sobi has since secured employment at Peter Stutchbury Architecture, enjoying the lifestyle of Sydney’s northern beaches. Sobi was a well deserved winner of the Blight Rayner prize, just ahead of fellow graduates Jason Palmer, Courtney Villegas and Ben Campbell.
